NYCC 10 - Geoff Johns Announces Two DC Comics Movies Per Year!

Good news from NYCC. Apparently Geoff Johns has announced that we will be seeing two DC comic book movies per year from now on.

We knew that DC/WB were planning to ramp up their comic book movie output once The harry Potter franchise ended next year. But it looks like those plans include quite a few more movies than we figured.
Cinema Blend  reports that DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns expects two DC properties to hit theaters every year after the end of the Harry Potter franchise. The second most successful franchise of all time, the Harry Potter films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the box office since 2001 and each averages about $285 million. Naturally, the end of the series leaves a big whole in the pocket of the studio, and, apparently, they believe that their comic book rights are the perfect remedy.

We know we have the Superman reboot on the way, Batman 3 and of course Green Lantern and its potential sequels as well as a Flash movie. But so far nothing else has really been discussed, let alone confirmed. We already heard from Johns earlier when he reiterated that a Justice League movie wouldn't seem to be on the cards anytime soon.

Boba Fett and Darth Vader Take On Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction would have been so much cooler with Boba Fett and Darth Vader in it.  Just imagine them in the scene where they both are cleaning up the inside of the blood covered car:

Darth Vader:  Oh, man, I will never forgive your ass for this shit. This is some fucked-up repugnant shit.
Boba Fett: Lord Vader, did you ever hear the philosophy that once a man admits that he's wrong that he is immediately forgiven for all wrongdoings? Have you ever heard that?
Darth Vader: Get the fuck out my face with that shit! The motherfucker that said that shit never had to pick up itty-bitty pieces of skull on account of your dumb ass.
Boba Fett: I got a threshold, Darth. I got a threshold for the abuse that I will take. Now, right now, I'm a fuckin' race car, right, and you got me the red. And I'm just sayin', I'm just sayin' that it's fuckin' dangerous to have a race car in the fuckin' red. That's all. I could blow.
Darth Vader: Oh! Oh! You ready to blow?
Boba Fett: Yeah, I'm ready to blow.
Darth Vader: Well, I'm a mushroom-cloud-layin' motherfucker, motherfucker! Every time my fingers touch brain, I'm Superfly T.N.T., I'm the Guns of the Navarone! IN FACT, WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOIN' IN THE BACK? YOU'RE THE MOTHERFUCKER WHO SHOULD BE ON BRAIN DETAIL! We're fuckin' switchin'! I'm washin' the windows, and you're pickin' up this nigger's skull!

Alan Moore's KILLING JOKE in Lego!

Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's chilling 1988 graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke—which reminded us the Joker wasn't just a joke, but rather a homicidal maniac—is considered by many to be the greatest Joker story ever told. But who ever thought it could be just as chilling retold with LEGOs?

How influential was The Killing Joke? Heath Ledger was given a copy to help him create his character for The Dark Knight. And this presentation of the Joker's famous final speech from the graphic novel—just as tense with LEGOs as on the page—will show you why.

Check it out below.

First Look at Cartoon Network's Green Lantern Animated Series at NYCC 10

Here's your first look at Green Lantern: The Animated Series, coming to Cartoon Network in 2011. Warner Bros. Animation, which is producing the show, will preview the upcoming DC Comics adaptation for fans at this weekend's New York Comic Con at the Jacob K. Javits Center on Manhattan's West Side.

Executive producer Bruce Timm — whose infinite credits include the beloved animated series starring Batman, Superman and the Justice League — will headline the panel on Saturday at 2:30pm, alongside producer Giancarlo Volpe (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and producer/story editor Jim Krieg (Ben 10: Alien Swarm). Following the panel, from 4:00 to 5:00pm, the team will be signing posters (with this image) at the DC Comics booth.

Green Lantern, one of DC's most popular superheroes, is a member of an intergalactic police force dedicated to protecting the universe. He wields a power ring that can create hard-light constructs of any object he imagines.

It will be a big year for the character, who also headlines a feature film, opening June 17, 2011 with Ryan Reynolds in the title role.

Girl Plays Jingle Bells with Her Enormous Breasts

Yes, this is a girl who has learned how to play Jingle Bells with a straw and her boobs - her rather large boobs that is. She even admits that for this trick to work, its really preferred that you have huge boobs.

The question is, how do you think she learned that she could blow on a hard object stuck between her boobs and make men happy by doing do?  I wonder.

Jim Lee & Brian Azzarello Launch BATMAN: EUROPA Miniseries in 2011

Normally, I am the first to jump on the "too many batman title" bandwagon, but I am going to make an exception for this little miniseries.  The reasons why?  It's a miniseries and Jim Lee, Brian Azzarello, and many other top-notch writers and artists are involved on the project.

From DC's The Source:
Coming in January BATMAN: EUROPA, a four-issue mini-series written to gritty perfection by FIRST WAVE’s Brian Azzarello and Matteo Casali with an all-star cast of artists, including Giuseppe Camuncoli (who is handling layouts for the entire series!), Diego Latorre and Jock. With a first issue painted over Cammo’s layouts by none other than superstar artist and DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee, who as you know, is no stranger to Batman. And if it involves Jim, you can guarantee it’s a major Batman tale.
In the pages of BATMAN: EUROPA, the impossible has happened – the Batman is on the brink of defeat, at the hands of a virus with no cure. Surely there’s someone that can help him? Well, there is – the Joker. Who infected Batman with the virus? What does the Joker have to do to save him? And how can it all happen before the Dark Knight collapses? Together, the unlikely teammates and arch-foes travel through Europe cobbling together clues while the clock ticks down.
Here is the first cover from the series, by Jim Lee, and it is beautiful.  I cannot wait to read this tale.

Mark Millar's NEMESIS gets $150 Million Budget & Top Gun Director

I am one of the few people within my circle of comic book geek friends that enjoys Mark Millar's "Nemesis." Batman has always been my favorite character in any genre, hands down. I enjoy the twist of having a "Bruce Wayne" type character on the other side of the law. Batman can stop anyone using his money, intelligence and/or physical attributes It's nice to read a story where we try to find someone or something that can stop an evil Batman with these same abilities.

So I was excited when Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven’s antihero story “Nemesis” is going to be brought to life with "Top Gun" and "Enemy of the State" director Tony Scott.

Here are some things we know about the film from Mark Millar.

“They reckon the budget on this thing will probably be around $150 MILLION mark. It’s a very expensive film, it’s got a lot of big set pieces,” he told MTV News while promoting his recently launched "CLiNT" comics magazine. “So the nice thing is, it means we can hopefully afford who we want to work with.”

Millar said he discussed who he’d like to see in the title roles with Scott recently, and told the filmmaker, “In my head I saw Johnny Depp versus Brad Pitt, and he said, 'Well, that sounds good,’ and he has some of his own ideas as well. He’s just going to go around and get a script together and then take it out and see what he can find.

“Tony Scott has to be at the top of the list, he’s a Hollywood legend. Every single person in the country probably has at least one of his movies on DVD," said Millar. "So the idea of Tony Scott doing a superhero movie in itself would be exciting, the idea of doing mine is just crazy. It’s something I’m very, very exciting about.”

The official Green Lantern website has launched at GreenLantern.com and, while the current website is pretty sparse, it does offer an all-new animated look at the film's official logo.

Green Lantern  stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Mark Strong as Sinestro and Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond with a supporting cast that includes Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison, Angela Bassett, Jay O. Sanders and Jon Tenney. Directed by Martin Campbell, the film hits theaters June 17, 2011.

Very Sexy Elena Satine to Play Mera (Aquaman's Wife) on SMALLVILLE

Apparently Geoff Johns has a thing for red-heads and particularly red-heads that swim.  Mera (Aquaman's wife) is everywhere in the DCU these days. She plays a major role in DC's flagship books, BLACKEST NIGHT and BRIGHTEST DAY. She has two action figures from DC Direct. The Queen of Atlantis also appeared on BATMAN THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD. Now, Mera will appear on SMALLVILLE with her husband Aquaman.

Mera makes her live-action debut on “Smallville” in October, this from Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly. Apparently, when Aquaman appears again, he’ll have already married his extra-dimensional sweetheart. Mera is being played by Elena Satine, a Russian-born actress known stateside for stints in “Melrose Place."

Emma Stone is Gwen Tracy in New SPIDER-MAN Movie

In recent days, it looked like Emma Stone, the 21-year-old star of current release Easy A, was a lock to play red-haired Mary Jane in 2012’s Marc Webb-directed Spider-Man film. In a strange twist, Stone will actually play Gwen Stacy, the other (blonde) love of Peter Parker’s life.

I like Emma Stone (she's got that Anna Farris quality) and think she will do a great job in this movie. I am surprised that she is not playing Mary Jane, a role that seems a perfect fit for her. Regardless of the casting, she's a definite plus for 2012 movie.
CULVER CITY, Calif., October 5, 2010 –Emma Stone has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming Spider-Man film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures. Stone has been tapped for the role of Gwen Stacy opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. The film, to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will begin production in December and will be released in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012. The casting continues an association between Sony Pictures Entertainment and the actress, who previously starred in Superbad, The House Bunny, and Zombieland, all for Columbia Pictures; she may currently be seen in Screen Gems’ hit comedy Easy A, and takes a cameo role in Screen Gems’ upcoming Friends with Benefits.

Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, “It’s been an incredible journey for us to watch Emma’s star rise as an actress. She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role. Given her history with the studio, casting her in one of our most important franchises is a real thrill.”

Webb added, “The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.”
Emma Stone can currently be seen starring in Screen Gems’ hit comedy Easy A. Next year, she will star in Warner Bros.’ Crazy, Stupid, Love opposite Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling and in The Help, the adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s bestselling novel; she also takes a cameo role in Screen Gems’ Friends with Benefits and will voice a role in DreamWorks Animation’s comedy The Croods. Stone’s recent credits include Paperman, Zombieland, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The House Bunny, The Rocker, and Superbad.

Worst Freakin News of the Day - DC Universe Online Delayed Until 2011

Sony has delayed the long-anticipated DC Universe Online MMO this past summer, as now the game, which was originally supposed to come out in November, has been delayed until “early 2011.”

Here’s the reasoning, from the press release:
“SOE is dedicated to delivering the highest quality game experiences possible,” says John Smedley, President, Sony Online Entertainment. “DC Universe Online is the first game of its kind, and a truly massive undertaking — the first action MMO set in the DC Universe, the first MMO on the PlayStation® 3, and the first time the entire DC Universe will be accessible to the millions of fans who are eagerly anticipating its release. As the game heads into external beta testing, this extra time will allow us to address community feedback in a meaningful way. When we get deeper into external beta, we’ll be able to share more information regarding the new launch date.”
SOE has also revealed new details regarding the beta program. Players with VIP key cards and those having registered at the DCUO website will receive access on a priority basis starting as early as next week. As an added thank you, everyone that has already pre-ordered the game, and those who do so by November 15th, 2010, are assured access to beta by November 30th (North America only).

Anyone pre-ordering the game after November 15th will gain beta access one week prior to the launch date and will be able to participate in the special beta ending event entitled Battle of the Legends with the rest of the beta participants. As an additional bonus, all beta participants will be recognized post release with a special emblem for their character when the game goes live. Beginning October 7, 2010 instructions on how to qualify to receive your pre-order beta key will be located here: www.dcuniverseonline.com/betakey.

Well, as sad as I am about the delay, I guess I would rather have the game working to its max potential rather than fight through a bunch of bug fix updates like all the apple products I own.  Here's to 2011!!

Minka Kelly Playing Diana in David Kelley's WONDER WOMAN?

Warner Bros. Television has reported tapped television producer David E. Kelley to bring the iconic heroine back to life. Kelley’s previous TV creations include “Ally McBeal,” “Boston Legal” and “The Practice.” This agreement comes after nearly a decade of failed attempts to bring live-action Wonder Woman movie back to the big screen.

While at lunch watching ESPN (of all places) I heard Colin Cowherd state that Minka Kelly may play Wonder Woman in the new tv series. It was on while comparing Kelly and Derek Jetter, discussing who may have a "brighter future" that Kelly was mentioned in connection with the new show that DC/WB have in the works. I vote Kelly - how could you not!

Kelly is probably best known as Lyla Garrity in the Friday Night Lights tv show, but has also starred in several movies. Any fans of Marc Webb's 500 Days of Summer will remember her cameo at the end as Autumn!

We will continue to research this rumor and bring you any additional news. In the mean time, what do you think? I like it!

Zach Synder (300 & WATCHMEN ) Officially Directing SUPERMAN Reboot

After weeks of recent speculation, Deadline.com reported Monday evening that Zack Snyder has been chosen by Warner Bros. to direct the next Superman film.

The Hollywood Reporter stated that negotiations began earlier today. Christopher Nolan, director of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, is a producer on Superman, and had reportedly been considering a list of candidates including Snyder, Tony Scott and Duncan Jones.

David S. Goyer, whose credits include Batman Begins and a long co-writing run on DC Comics title JSA, is writing the screenplay. Sources including The Hollywood Reporter say that General Zod, the main villain of 1980's Superman II, will play a role.

Darren Aronofsky was also among the list of directors considered; but it was reported last week that he's being targeted to direct a big-screen adaptation of DC/Vertigo's acclaimed mature reader series Preacher.

Snyder has directed two prior comic book adaptations: Frank Miller's 300 in 2007, and the 2009 adaptation of seminal DC miniseries Watchmen. His animated fantasy Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is now in theaters, with spring 2011's Sucker Punch his next project scheduled for release.
